WWI VS WWII
THE FINAL LESSON
All stops lead here! Before you begin today's lesson, please ensure that you have completed all other lesson activities. The knowledge you have acquired throughout the course of this depth study will have prepared you for today's final lesson of the unit. Soon, you will be involved in a little 'war' of your own! - Non-violent, of course!
Final Activity
You will be split up into FOUR groups. You can not select who you want to have with you in your group. This is because, as you should now know, throughout times of war, countries must form alliances with others in order to achieve success. Once you have been placed into your groups, you will be assigned a particular war of focus (WWI OR WWII).
All groups will engage in a debate. It is war vs. war!
GROUP 1: WWI VS Group 2: WWII
GROUP 3: WW1 VS Group 4: WWII
All groups will engage in a debate. It is war vs. war!
GROUP 1: WWI VS Group 2: WWII
GROUP 3: WW1 VS Group 4: WWII
Debate Topic
Your debate topic is:
Was Australia's involvement more significant and necessary in WWI or WWII?
You will present arguments for your assigned group. Group 1 and 3 will argue about why WWI was more significant and necessary whilst groups 2 and 4 will argue about why WWII was more significant and necessary. Your arguments should cover the benefits of your selected war and why these benefits were greater than the benefits of the opposing war (consider the overall impact of the war, casualties, impact on the home front, impact on Australia's international ties etc.). Your group's debate should be no longer than 7-8 minutes as a whole. You will be given twenty minutes to put together your groups debate. This means you must organise and select appropriate information you have learnt throughout this unit.
NOTE:
* You are looking at things from an Australian perspective. Your entire debate should be centred around the benefits and necessity of your allocated war to AUSTRALIA.
* The two debates will be 30 minutes in length (15 minutes for each debate)
* Group 1 and 2 will have their debate first followed by Groups 3 and 4
* Whilst other groups are having their debate, each student MUST be taking note of key information, particularly from the group presenting an opposing argument to you.
GOOD LUCK!
