Activity 1 - Class Discussion
Students are to answer the following:
Who has heard of the Kokoda Track?
What do you know about the Kokoda Track?
Where did you learn about the Kokoda Track?
When looking at Australian History, such events of war have
been commemorated a lot more than others, these events are the story of the
Kokoda Track and Gallopoli in WW1.
Do you think these are the only major events of Australian
history in reference to war?
WW2 held many famous and circumstance-changing events that
are acknowledge, but not so much as the Kokoda Track. For example, since the
release of a film based on the events of Kokoda in 1942, there has been an
almost barrage of Kokoda coverage spread across all forms of media, such as
popular and scholarly histories, documentary films and even pop cultural films
that ‘based on a true story’.
So what happened in the event of
the Kokoda Track?

for a reader understand the concept of what this event meant.

Activity 2 – Writing task: Understanding and Commemorating Events
Using this piece of writing as a reference, create your own 300-word synopsis based on different events of Australian involvement in World War 2. Using your own knowledge and internet resources explore the reasons why these events must be pedestalled onto the same level of the Kokoda track. By using the Kokoda synopsis supplied as a guideline, create an argument of proof that signifies these events as an important part of Australian History, events that deserve numerous amount of media platforms to tell their story.
